Jusan topped the ESG information disclosure ranking among banks
Jusan Bank ranked highest among banks in Kazakhstan in PwC Kazakhstan's ranking of 50 best companies in the country in terms of ESG disclosure.
When creating the ranking, its compilers analyzed annual reports and sustainability reports prepared by companies based on their performance in 2022. Jusan Bank ranked 13th in the final ranking, which was the best result among companies in the financial sector.
Sustainability Report of Jusan Bank 2022 was the second in the history of the bank. It provides information on the principles of the financial institution's social responsibility and sustainable development activities and the impact of the bank on economic, social and environmental spheres in the regions where it operates. In particular, the report reflects the progress of the bank in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, responsible consumption of resources, as well as in reducing the share of projects negatively affecting the environment in the loan portfolio.
"Recognition of Jusan Bank as a leader in ESG information disclosure among financial institutions in Kazakhstan is a reflection of the great and consistent work carried out in the bank. As a socially responsible company, we cannot develop our business without taking into account direct and indirect impact on the environment and society as a whole. Therefore, the bank intends to continue ESG-transformation and take into account environmental, social and management factors in its activities", - said Galimzhan Yessenov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Jusan Bank.
As one of the "pioneers" in the transition to sustainability in Kazakhstan, Jusan Bank intends to consolidate this leadership by adopting a climate strategy, which is designed to ensure that the business model of the bank is resilient to the effects of climate change.
"This year we have significantly increased the requirements within the framework of assessing the level of ESG information disclosure of Kazakhstani companies, placing greater emphasis on management approaches and strategy, and adding industry-specific indicators. However, we see that the development of Kazakhstani non-financial reporting is generally catching up with these international trends that we have introduced, and a significant number of companies meet even the increased assessment criteria. In our view, this shows that sustainability leaders in Kazakhstan are following the changing sustainability agenda and are successfully working to incorporate these innovations into their ESG practices in general and their disclosure practices," the PwC report notes.
